
Maiden Edition of KCIC Spelling Bee: A Groundbreaking Success
The inaugural Kada City Interschools Competition (KCIC) Spelling Bee, hosted by Dream World Pioneers Ventures and Kada City Interschools Competition Ltd, took place at Kaduna State University’s Faculty of Social Science Theatre Hall in 2019.

- Participants: 256 eligible contestants (ages 7-14) pupils/students from over 30 schools,
- Age categories: Junior (7-10) and Senior (11-14)
- Competition format: Adopted global standard rules of Scripps National Spelling Bee (USA)
- Reach: Public and private schools represented
Competition Highlights: Over thirty schools participated, two hundred and fifty-six pupils/students were eligible contestants.
Day 1:
- Junior category (7-10):
- Numbers of Pupils: 162 pupils participated
- Schools: 32 schools participated
- Junior category: 7 rounds, top 10 finalists emerged
- Senior category (11-14):
- Numbers of Students: 94 students participated
- Schools: 28 schools participated
- Senior category: 8 rounds, top 10 finalists emerged
Day 2:
- Junior category (7-10):
- Two Best Spellers: After eight rounds, Dumto Charles Madubuko of Great Panaf Schools, Barnawa and Nifemi Suleiman of Divine Grace Academy, Barnawa.
- Words spelled correctly: antagonism, gigantic, belated, desolate, isolation, diabetes
- Winner: Nifemi Suleiman (Divine Grace Academy), age 10, spelled “egotism”
- Senior category (11-14):
- Two Best Spellers: David Idachaba of Redeemers Secondary Schools, Barnawa and Onwe Miracle of Deeper Life High Schools, Kaduna emerged the two finalists
- Words spelled correctly: complex and challenging words was spelled
- Winner: David Idachaba (Redeemers Secondary Schools), age 14, spelled “pneumatic”
.Awards and Recognition:
- Medals (bronze, silver, gold) for top 10 finalists in each category
- Trophies for champions (Nifemi Suleiman of Divine Grace Academy and David Idachaba of Redeemers Secondary Schools)
- Certificates of participation for all contestants
